Elaine M. Seaman
Elaine M. “Tootsie” Seaman, 92, of Dubuque, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 2, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Rev. Steven Rosonke will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 1, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Elaine was born September 17, 1926, in Dubuque, the daughter of Gus and Lorraine (Powers) Manternach. She married Lloyd W. Seaman August 8, 1946 at Nativity Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2008. Elaine was a graduate of Visitation Academy.
She worked as a psychotherapist for Dr. Richard H. Lee, and also at Mercy Medical Center for many years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she served on the welcoming committee. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver.
Elaine could always be counted on to be the peacemaker and problem solver. She and Lloyd loved to travel, especially their annual trip to Florida. Elaine was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother, and loved holidays and “Friday Night Live” gimlets with her family. As a friend, Elaine was engaged and thoughtful, and she possessed a keen intellect, making her a ready sounding board for problems large and small. She and Lloyd enjoyed many years filled with dinners, card games, cocktails, and conversations shared among an amazing group of friends.
Elaine is survived by four children, Suzanne (John) Halloran of Mishawaka, IN, Sara (Joe) Gianino, Sandra Muir, and Paul (Ellen) Seaman, all of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, Brian (Colleen) Halloran, Brendan (Aubry) Halloran, and Dr. Mary Brigid (Jose Guizar) Halloran, Tony (Christy) Gianino, Nic (Stacy) Gianino, and Maria (Mike)Steinlage, Karin Lee, Daniel Seaman, Benjamin Seaman, and Ryan (fiancee Miranda) Seaman; 15 great grandchildren, Kathleen and Sean Halloran, Hannah, A.J., Noah, and Caleb Gianino, Sam and Lucy Gianino, Angelina and Josephina Steinlage, Meghan and Jack Lee, and Aiden Lloyd Seaman, and Corbin and Evan Shelton; her brother, Richard (Kay) Manternach of Dubuque; her sister in law, Ardith Linn of NC; and Kathy Simon and Scott Smith, whom she loved as her own children; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Phyllis Manternach; and her son in law, Stewart Muir.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or Wahlert Catholic High School. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the staff at Mercy Medical Center for their care of Elaine.
