Fieldon F. Atchison

Fieldon F. “Bubbles” Atchison, age 96, of Dubuque passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Luther Manor.  To celebrate Bubbles’ life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 1199 Main Street, Dubuque.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.  Behr Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Fieldon was born on August 31, 1930, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Fieldon and Christina (Haser) Atchison.

He served in the U.S. Army during Korea and was a Golden Glove Boxer in his younger days.  He married Mary Jo O’Toole on April 13, 1961, in Galena, Illinois.  She preceded him in death on March 27, 2014, after almost 53 years of marriage.  Bubbles was a long time member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.  He and Mary Jo loved to travel and spent many weekends camping.  Bubbles enjoyed being in the great outdoors hunting and fishing.  He won a number of fishing tournaments over the years.  Bubbles was a dedicated employee and devoted 29 years to the Dubuque Packing Company and another 20 years to the University of Dubuque.  He was a devoted husband to his wife, taking care of her through many years of illness.  Bubbles’ greatest joy in life was his family.  He will be greatly missed.

10 great-grandchildren;

and his siblings,
Kathleen Sullivan Grimme,
Marie Lorenz,
and Susan Lane, all of Dubuque.

Bubbles was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Mary Jo; 2 grandsons, Cole Hollenback and Brad Atchison; and his siblings, Lucille Atchison, Genevieve Meyer, Dave “Man” Atchison and Dan Atchison.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Cathy, for their wonderful care and kindness.
