Floriene Necas

Floriene Necas of Grand Meadows passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026.  A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Born on April 29, 1935, in Ionia, Iowa, Floriene was the daughter of Florian and Irene Roethler. She married Bernard “Bernie” Necas on June 17, 1958, at St. Boniface Church in Ionia, and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage before Bernie’s passing in 2018.

Floriene is survived by her children, Bruce (Marie) Necas and Jill (Todd) Link, as well as her grandchildren, Lindsi (Noah) De la Rosa, Blair Necas, Collin Link (Emma Blackburn), and Connor Link. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernie, her son Brian Necas, and her siblings, including her beloved brother Art Roethler, to whom she was especially close.

Floriene was a devoted stay-at-home mom who found great joy in caring for her family. She loved baking and sewing for family and friends; there was little she couldn’t mend with her sewing machine and a spool of thread. She was especially known for her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls, which were a favorite among those who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, crocheting, traveling, and sharing lunches and casino outings with her close friends.

A lifelong Catholic, Floriene was an active member in her parish, Church of the Nativity, until her health declined, cherishing her faith and the community she found there.

Mom delighted in helping others and was always ready to lend a hand or offer support to family, friends, and neighbors. Her generosity, kindness, and thoughtfulness were evident in every act, big and small, and she gave freely of her time, love, and resources to brighten the lives of those around her.

A wonderful grandmother, Floriene loved baking Christmas cookies and creating special birthday cakes, making whatever her grandchildren imagined come to life. She had a gift for storytelling and often entertained her grandchildren with imaginative, made-up stories, sometimes accompanied by fun popcorn parties that became cherished family memories. Above all, she treasured reading to them, engaging in meaningful conversations, and being a strong, loving influence in their lives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Floriene’s name to Bernies Book Bank, which provides books to children to help foster a lifelong love of reading, or to a local children’s library of your choice.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to her friends, the staff at Grand Meadows, Dr. Kumor, and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care.
