Floyd was born on January 22, 1935 in rural Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Clara (Buenker) Krapfl. He received his education from the Dyersville area schools. On April 27, 1968, he was united in marriage to Carol Nesler at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Dubuque.
He is a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army, station in Austria as a truck driver. When he returned he farmed for a while. Floyd is a 1965 Graduate of the University of Iowa where he received his Degree in Civil Engineering. He is a proud Hawkeye. Floyd owned and operated F. L. Krapfl Construction since 1974 until his retirement. Many of the same crew continue to work there yet today under his son, Cory. Even though Floyd may have spent 7 days a week at the shop, he was never “at work” as he loved what he did.
He was a wonderful husband and father, very patient, kind, and humble. He loved traveling to visit Cindy and Jeff in Arizona. No matter what he did in life, he gave it his all. Floyd spent many years on the Mississippi with Carol and the kids. He enjoyed his 1931 Model A trucks, listening to polka music, and drinking an Old Milwaukee Beer….but most of all he was immensely proud of his grandchildren and loved them dearly.
Those left to cherish Floyd’s memory are his wife of 56 years, Carol Krapfl of Dyersville; five children, Chris (Sandy) Krapfl of Worthington, Craig (Julia) Krapfl of Ankeny, Cory (Jill) Krapfl of Dyersville, Cathy (Jason) Heisler of Dyersville, and Cindy (Jeff) Pries of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren, Megan, Madison, Mackenzie, Jessica, Rachel, Jakob, Mya, Jonathan, Easton, Jackson, Charissa, and Hayden; two brothers, John (Velma) Krapfl, and Bill Krapfl both of Dyersville; a sister-in-law, Natalie Brimeyer of Monument, CO; and several nieces and nephews and his dog, Beau.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Merle (Madonna) Krapfl; two sisters, Arlene (Jim) Tauke and Joan (Ralph) Werner; his father and mother-in-law, Ferdinand “Bud” and Rita (Baecker) Nesler; one sister-in-law, Karen Krapfl and Natalie (Dale) Brimeyer; and two brothers-in-laws, Ferdinand Nesler and Dale Brimeyer.
