Frank K. Randall
Frank K. Randall passed away peacefully on his 81st birthday, June 18, 2024, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Born on June 18, 1943, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Harry Augustus and Donna Marie (Kunkle) Randall, Frank’s early life in the heartland set the stage for a lifetime dedicated to teaching, farming, and community involvement.
Frank’s journey in education began at Fayette High School in Fayette, Iowa, where his passion for teaching first took root. He pursued his academic interests at Upper Iowa University, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Music Major. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Colorado State College in in Greeley, Colorado, where he earned his Master of Art’s Degree in Education Administration: Elementary, empowering him to inspire generations of students during his 26-year career in education.
He commenced his teaching career in Baldwin Schools, later teaching at the 4th Ward School, and Brigg’s Elementary in Maquoketa. Frank found fulfillment as the 5th Grade Science Teacher at Cardinal Elementary in Maquoketa, where he fostered a love for the natural world among his students. His dedication extended beyond teaching: he was actively involved in educational associations like the MEA, NEA, and ISEA, and also participated in the Jackson County Farm Bureau and First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa.
Frank cherished his time on the farm, engaging in the timeless rituals of planting and harvesting. He enjoyed family moments driving tractors, riding horses, and sharing the excitement of launching rockets. These activities embodied his deep affection for the Iowa countryside and the simple joys of life.
Music was a lifelong passion for Frank, beginning with his college performances and continuing as he directed church choirs. His adventurous spirit led him to explore places rich in family history and indulge in the thrill of treasure hunting, finding joy in both the journey and the discoveries made along the way.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Doreen M. (Randall) Algeo of Ozark, Missouri, and her children, Samuel (Missouri) and Sydney (Arkansas) Algeo. He is also survived by his devoted partner, Janice Mundt of Maquoketa, Iowa, and her children Scott (Lonnie) Mundt of Minnesota and Chad Mundt of South Carolina, along with Jan’s grandchildren, Dan (Corey), Connor (Georgia), Zachary, Aliya, Mathew, and Kathryn Mundt. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Delbert Streeter, Donald Streeter, and Darrell Streeter.
A memorial service celebrating Frank’s life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Monday, June 24, 2024, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Following the service, a gathering of family and friends will take place from 2 to 5 P.M. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at “The Bistro” at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made in Frank’s name to Hospice of Jackson County, honoring his compassionate spirit and dedication to community care.
