George L. Anderson

George Lee Anderson, 78, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the Midwest Senior Care Community in Galena, IL.

Family and friends may call from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Schapville (rural Scales Mound), where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. James P. Mehltretter officiating.  Burial will be held in Shepherd of the Hills Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of VFW Post # 2665 and American Legion Post # 193 of Galena.

George was born on January 27, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Marvin and Elaine (Dotzel) Anderson. He was a graduate of Scales Mound High School, the class of 1964. George proudly served in the U. S. Army from September of 1966 – March of 1967. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Schapville.

He married the love of his life Carol North on August 12, 1967, in Seymour, WI. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2016.

George formerly was employed at Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in Freeport, IL, but his passion in life was farming. He will be remembered as a life-long farmer who dedicated his life to working the land and tirelessly tending to his crops and livestock. He was known for his strong work ethic and his generosity in sharing his knowledge with others. His legacy will live on in the fields he tended and the lives he touched. He leaves behind a community grateful for his contributions and a family who will always cherish his memory.

Surviving are his son Carl (Dawn) Anderson; grandchildren, Clint (Ashley) Cyle (Courtney), Darian, Jalen, Taylor and Maddison, Anna, Keira and Kendra; great-grandchildren, Ava, Charley and Abby; two brothers, Larry (Virgie) Anderson and Jim (Kathy) Anderson, a sister, Karen (Tony) Winter; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Elaine, his wife Carol, infant son Dennis and a son Neil.
