Georgia E. Robinson
Georgia Estelle Robinson, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Wheatland Manor.
Georgia was born in Chicago, IL on July 22, 1941, the daughter of George and Sophia Petaros. At the age of 11 she and her family moved to Maquoketa, Iowa where her parents operated the Green Mill Cafe. Georgia graduated from Maquoketa Community High School in 1959. She attended Coe College for two years and completed her education at the Cedar Rapids School of Business where she trained to become a secretary. In 1965 she married Craig Owen Robinson. They raised two children, a daughter, Andrea, and a son, Cory.
Georgia worked at Clinton Engines until 1968. Following her employment there, she worked 33 years for the Maquoketa Community School District until her retirement in 2001. She began as the secretary in the Guidance Counselor’s office at the Maquoketa Junior High School. In 1980 she became the Administrative Secretary to the Superintendent of the Maquoketa Community School District. Georgia loved her Maquoketa Cardinals and served for many years as the scorebook keeper for the high school boys’ basketball teams. Georgia enjoyed serving her community as the Maquoketa Correspondent for the Quad-City Times newspaper for a number of years.
Georgia was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She also enjoyed watching the marching bands perform, especially at the Octoberfest of Bands competitions. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing with her husband Craig, collecting antiques, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, visiting casinos and going out to eat with her high school friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include: her daughter, Andrea (Joel) Baker, and their children, Jared and Annika, of Des Moines; her son, Cory (Tracie) Robinson, his daughter, Sasha, and stepdaughters, Tessa and Libbie Werner of Toddville, and her brother Thomas (Colleen) Petaros, of Maquoketa. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A celebration of Georgia’s life will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, September 8, 2023, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
