Gerald was born on July 4, 1930, in rural New Vienna, Iowa, son of Alphonse H. and Regina B. (Fangmann) Gaul. He received his education in the rural country schools in New Vienna. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. Gerald was united in marriage June 12, 1956, to Joan Muller at St. Clement’s Church in Bankston. The couple farmed in the Bankston area, where his love of the land was evident in the pleasure he took caring for his farm for thirty-five years until he retired in 1991 at which time they moved to Farley.
Jerry was a proud and humble man with a subtle sense of humor. He was a generous man with his time, talents and treasures. He loved time with his family and friends.
