Gerald J. Stumpf

Gerald J. “Jerry” Stumpf, age 83, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on January 18, 2026, at home while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Jerry’s life, a private family Celebration of Life is being held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jerry’s family.

Jerry was born on October 16, 1942, in Dubuque, IA, a son to John and Margaret (Schoenberger) Stumpf.  He was a good man who lived a great life and always appreciated each blessing that came his way.  For instance, he met his soul-mate, Lillian “Lil” Hufnagel, when they were young and knew that he was made to spend the rest of his years with her by his side.  They were united in marriage in 1964 and have been inseparable since.  They were blessed with 2 beautiful daughters and over six decades together raising and nurturing their children, grandchildren AND great-grandchildren as they faced everyday hand in hand.

Jerry provided for his family at home by investing over 35 years of his time and talents with the St. Regis Paper Company.  He eventually became the shipping manager and after leaving in 1996, Jerry went on to spend a few more years with Quebecor where his knowledge and experience was surely an asset they welcomed.

In his free-time, Jerry was first and foremost a Minnesota Vikings fan.  His loyalty was unwavering and each season was a new opportunity to hopefully cheer them into victory.  He also spent many hours with his trusty fishing pole in hand working on the next big catch when time allowed.  He made multiple fishing trips with the boys up north and even into Canada throughout his adventures.  Jerry also never missed a chance to embrace a sunny day and practice his long drive at Birchwood Golf Course with his friends by his side.  Jerry was an avid bowler for quite a few years as well and whether perfecting his roll on a men’s league, or mixed doubles, he was always in his happy place when his wife and friends were close by.  But, if truth be told, sitting at the table with a deck of cards ready to be shuffled up was his greatest joy.  Family and friends bringing their best euchre hands to the game was always a fun evening, but the daily games with Lil where just the two of them could play and spend quality time together was where his heart surely longed to be.  We are going to miss Jerry’s uninhibited sense of humor and the give and take of his witty banter will definitely leave this world a little smaller than it was before.  We are forever grateful for the 83 years the Lord was gracious enough to allow Jerry to brighten our lives and will miss him dearly until we all see his genuine smile once again.
