Gerald M. Roth
Gerald M. “Jerry” Roth, 84, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2023 at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dennis Vargas officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Family and friends may call from 2 – 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where the Parish Prayer Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Jerry was born on December 14, 1938 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Elmer and Laureen (Bishop) Roth. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Koeller at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque on January 27, 1962
Jerry served as an altar boy and sang in the church choir. He graduated from East Dubuque High School, with the Class of 1956. Jerry played basketball, football, and baseball with the Dubuque Packers. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, where he attained the rank of Sergeant, serving from November of 1961 – November of 1963.
He moved back to East Dubuque in 1963 and worked at John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement. He was a member of UAW Local # 94.
Jerry coached little league baseball for 25 years, enjoyed woodworking, gambling, breakfast on Thursday with the guys and was a season ticket holder to the Dubuque Fighting Saints for ovre 40 years.
Surviving is his wife, Geraldine; three children, Pam (Art) Griffin of Erie, CO, Ron Roth of Dubuque, IA, and Marna (Tommy) Horstman of Guttenberg, IA; eight grandchildren, A. J., Vance, and Gabby Griffin, Avery Rogers, Brandon Montijo, Bryson Frommelt, Shian Saunders, and Lauren Guntle; and his beloved dog, Peaches.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Laureen, brothers, Chuck and Goph, nephews, John and Dave Roth, niece, Kathy McQuillan, in-laws, Raymond & Dorothy Koeller and brother-in-law, Melvin Koeller.
Jerry’s family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque for guiding and helping the family through his final days.
