Glen N. Milligan, age 87, 12 hours short of his 88th birthday, of Dubuque, who resided with his son, Jim, was called home peacefully at 11:36 a.m., on Monday, May 7, 2018, at home, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Glen’s life, funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at St. Patrick’s Church, 1425 Iowa Street, with Rev. Alan J. Dietzenbach officiating. To celebrate Glen’s life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post #6.

Glen was born on May 8, 1930, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Harold and Mildred (Hocking) Milligan.

Glen was a proud life-long Dubuquer, who honorable served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Joanne Crippes, but sadly she was called home ahead of him in 1985. Glen was blessed and fortunate enough to find love once again with Mary Hildebrand, and they were united in marriage on August 2, 1985, in Dubuque. Glen was a very dedicated and hard worker who not only put in over 31 years as a machine operator at John Deere Dubuque Works, but also found the time and energy to work nights at the Dubuque Packing Company for 14 of those years before he finally retired. Even after retirement, Glen quickly discovered he couldn’t sit still and found spending another 5 years at Medical Associates was a good way to utilize some free-time. Glen was a very active gentleman when it came to faith, community, co-workers, family, friends and comrades. He was a long-time and faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church, along with the U.A.W. Local #94 Retirees, V.F.W. #9663 of Dubuque, the Forty & Eight Club, a 50 year member of the East Dubuque Drum and Bugle Corps, the Eagles Club, and the American Legion Dubuque Post #6, where he was a loyal member of the funeral detail. Glen also generously gave of his time as a Member of the Governors Volunteers and the Mercy Hospital Volunteers. There is absolutely no denying that Glen was always happiest when he was serving others. Glen was a happy, honest and humble man who continually led through his actions. His impact on the Dubuque community, and the world around him in general, was always positive. Our hearts break at the mere thought of his absence from our daily lives, but we know and trust that he’s at peace with our loving Creator now and that all the love Glen shared during his 87 year earthly journey was definitely not in vain. Thank you Glen for all of the wonderful memories you leave behind which will thankfully bring us true comfort until we meet again!

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Joanne Milligan; a sister, Carol (Jerry) Cole; and a step-son, Dale Larson.
