Hilda J. (Burgmaier) Zenner, age 88, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully on December 14, 2023. Hilda was preceded in death by her loving husband, DeWayne “Ace,” who passed away on March 18, 1988.

To celebrate Hilda’s life, friends and family may visit from 9:00 am until 10:45 am Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1701 Rhomberg Avenue. The Mass of Christian Burial for Hilda will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Steven Garner as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Hilda was born on March 13, 1935 in Potosi, Wisconsin, daughter of John and Frances (Kass) Burgmaier. Hilda grew up in Kieler, Wisconsin where her father owned and operated the Greenhouse Tavern. She later moved to Dubuque where she met her husband; Hilda and Ace were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque on April 28, 1954. They briefly moved to San Diego, California while Ace was in the Marines until settling back in Dubuque to raise a family.

She was a homemaker and beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Hilda enjoyed playing Euchre and bingo, going to garage sales, and going to daily mass. She was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Church and the Rosary Society.

Hilda is survived by her children, Linda (Bill) Luensmann of Sherrill, IA, Peggy (Fred) Schubrych of Chicago, IL, Thomas (Lisa) Zenner of Peosta, IA, and Keith Zenner of Durango, IA; eight grandchildren, Abby, Emily, Garret, Ashley, Levi, Matthew, Hannah, and Katherine; and seven great-grandchildren.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Ace; her sister Mary (Burgmaier) Block, and grandson, Nicholas Zenner.
