Howard A. Riedel

Howard A. Riedel, age 79, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on February 9, 2026, at Ennoble Manor.  To honor Howard’s life, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1755 Delhi Street, with Pastor Libby Rutherford officiating.  Full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League following the service at the church.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Howard’s family.

Howard was born on June 17, 1946, on Long Island Islip, N.Y., a son to Milton “Tweet” and Frances (Krenicky) Riedel.  He lived his life in service to others and only desired to leave the world in better condition than when he arrived.  Howard honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and upon returning home, began his life’s work while taking pride in each opportunity that life offered.  In his early years, Howard was a real estate agent with Consolidated Realty before moving into his years as a county assessor for Vanguard Appraisals in Cedar Rapids.  He next invested many years as a friendly and helpful salesman at Graham’s Style Store before eventually moving into retirement.  Howard did not sit still very well at all and soon found himself spending his newly acquired free-time with his new friends at Duluth Trading to help pass the time.  Howard found joy in each adventure and always made the best of each job and chance to let his light shine wherever possible.

Howard spent his life on the move, always keeping active and often in the interest of others more than himself.  His mornings usually began with a good workout and with over 40 years of those occurring at the YMCA, and recently moving into Planet Fitness for some additional options; each day began with a routine which set the pace for what would be coming next.  Howard was continually looking for ways to help others, serve others, and simply bring his helping hand and servants heart where the Lord led him.  He faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Crocus Foundation and the Senior Fitness Group at the University of Dubuque.  Howard had a special drive in his life for senior citizens in need.  Whether it was driving them around, running errands, or finding and providing the additional support they required; there was no doubt that if Howard was in the mix, the mission was going to be completed without interruption.  We are going to miss the love and light Howard shared so generously with the world while he walked so intentionally among us and may the Lord comfort our broken hearts until we get to see his smiling face once again.  Thank you, Howard for simply being you and job well done!
