Jim was born August 25, 1955, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Donald and JoAnn (Armbruster) Breiner. On August 11, 1978, he married Cynthia “Cindy”  Lansing in Dubuque. Jim graduated from Hempstead High School in 1973.

Jim was a builder from the early age of 14 until the present. He also farmed and while farming, worked part time at night for FDL. When construction became good again, he went full force into building again. Jim passed on his love of building to his son, Matt, and they developed and built several beautiful homes in their subdivision. Jim was married to the love of his life, Cindy, for 45 years. They worked together, had a lot of fun together, and loved each other unconditionally. Jim’s love of his five children and 18 grandchildren gave him such pride. He loved family time and playing cards. An early Christmas was shared with him and the smiles said it all. He was one who always made sure you had a drink or food in hand.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Cindy of Sherrill; five children, Mike (Laura) Breiner, Matt (Abbey) Breiner, Kristy (Adam) Dupont, Kimmie (Travis) Birkel all of Sherrill; and Keri (Dillon) Hosch of Epworth; 18 grandchildren, Carly, Lydia, Brody, Layna, Ty, Tate, Julia, Tripp, Jodi,  Mason, Sawyer, Madison, Allie, Max, Karson, Kelton, Kollin, and Hattie; three sisters, Diane Mitchell, Jayne (Frank) Pothoff, and Debbie (Doug) Juergens all of Dubuque; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Lansing; sister-in-law, Mary Breiner; brothers-in-law, Steve & Dan Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel (Peggy); his sister, Jolene; father-in-law, Patrick Lansing; brother-in-law, Ken Mitchell.

A special thank you to Dr. Andrea Ries, Mercy Health Center staff, and Hospice of Dubuque.
