James “Jimmy” Dwayne Munoz Gutierrez, age 60, passed away at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD at 12:00p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025 with his two sons by his side.  To honor Jimmy’s life, friends and family attended a burial ceremony at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, Virginia at 1:00p.m. on June 30, 2025.  He was laid to rest with full military honors. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street is assisting the family.

Jimmy was born in Moline, IL to Ernest and Jane Gutierrez on September 17, 1964.  The family moved from the Quad Cities to Dubuque, IA in 1972.  He developed a lifetime interest in carpentry at a young age while attending the Dubuque Boys Club.  Jimmy graduated from Hempstead High School in 1983 and entered the U.S. Marine Corps.  He was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, NC.  Following his military service, Jimmy returned to Dubuque for a short time.  A majority of his working career was dedicated to commercial and residential construction, roofing and cabinetry.  His career took him to North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

In his spare time, Jimmy enjoyed spending all the time he could devoted to his boys, Cameron and Alexander, watching movies, cooking and baking.  He also enjoyed drawing and drafting.
Mostly, Jimmy’s sense of humor will be missed the most.  He loved a good practical joke, and if he could pull-it-off, his snicker alone would make you laugh.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Cameron and Alexander Gutierrez, Rockville, MD; his father, Ernest Gutierrez, Dubuque, IA; his siblings, Jane Gutierrez, Gallatin, TN, Dora (Scott) Rogers, Dubuque, IA, Ernest (Trish) Gutierrez, Jacksonville, NC, Bonnie Gutierrez, Dubuque, IA and Bert (Rob) Tallman, Bald Knob, AR; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Gutierrez and his sister Nancy Kennedy.

He will be missed by all who loved him.  Rest in peace.
