James Jobgen
James “Jim” Jobgen, 64, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on September 22, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
Family and friends may gather from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque. A Sharing Time will follow at 7:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to wear Hawkeye, Cubs, or Bears apparel—just not Packers!
Jim was born on April 28, 1961, in Dubuque, the son of Gerald and Judith (Lesch) Jobgen. He graduated from Stephen Hempstead High School in 1979 and later from Casper College in 1992. Over the years, Jim held many roles, including Technical Writer for Almon Inc. at John Deere Dubuque Works for 15 years, bartender at the Airline for 15 years, and maintenance at McKesson for more than 20 years. He married Julie Young on September 11, 2022, in Dubuque.
A devoted Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, Jim also recently cheered on the Indiana Fever (thanks to Caitlin Clark). He was a proud and loving “papa,” a dog lover, and a skilled cook. Known as a “jack of all trades and master of none,” Jim could tackle just about anything with good humor and determination.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Young; his sons, Adam (Hannah) Jobgen and Matt Jobgen; grandchildren, Zoey, Chloe, and Beau Jobgen; his sister, Paula (Jobgen) Tschudi; niece and nephew, Sydney (Sebastian) Fox and Carter Tschudi; great-nieces, Natalie and Addison Fox; great-nephews, Caleb and Jarrett Jobgen; and his grand-dog, Buck.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Judith, and his brother, Timothy Jobgen.
In lieu of flowers, a James Jobgen Memorial Fund has been established.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the University of Iowa Surgical Neuroscience ICU staff and to the staff at Leonard Funeral Home for their compassionate care and support.
