A Gathering of Family and Friends Celebrating James’ life will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  An informal short blessing will take place at 11 A.M.  Cremation will follow the visitation.

James Kendall Clark was born on January 27, 1956 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Albert Wayne and Barbara Jane (Romack) Clark.  He grew up in Dubuque and moved to Canton, Iowa at the age of 17.  He married Arla Luanne Edwards on January 15, 1977 in Maquoketa, Iowa. They resided in Dubuque, Iowa, where they raised their family. Then later moved to Wyoming, Iowa.

Jim was a jack of all trades who enjoyed working with his hands. He worked numerous construction jobs prior to his time at Wenzel Towing for 18 years, and lastly retiring from Portzen Construction in Dubuque where he was a mechanic for 14 years. During his retirement he enjoyed working as a mechanic for friends and local farmers.

Jim was an avid jokester, from his risqué one liners to pulling practical pranks on anyone who was unsuspecting. He had a witty sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. With a belly full of laughter and a heart full of love, he played many roles and made a lasting impact on all those he encountered through the years.

Jim loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, camping, or cutting wood.  He also enjoyed junking, playing cards and games, as well as working on square bodies and/or working the pit crew at the races.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Arla Clark of Wyoming, IA; children, John Paul (Kris) Clark of Monticello, IA, Jennifer Clark of Dubuque, IA, Heather (Dan) Heer of Dubuque, IA, and Kendall (fiancé Joni Franzen) Clark of Monmouth, IA; siblings, Edna Riggs of Dubuque, IA, Rita (Tom) Sutter of Dubuque, IA, Mary (Hal) Ryan of Tacoma, WA, Carol Meyer of Maquoketa, IA, Tom (Connie) Clark of Dubuque, IA, and George (Linda) Clark of Martelle, IA; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and his best friend James (Kathy) Kemp of Dubuque, IA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Phyllis Edwards and brother-in-law Barry Riggs.

The Clark Family would like to give a special thanks to the faculty and staff of Mercy One Cancer Center for their wonderful support and care.
