James N. Potter

James N. “Jim” Potter, 82, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday morning, August 20, 2023, at Ennoble Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

James Nathan Potter was born on July 14, 1941 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Louis Eugene and Anna Mae (Risinger) Potter.  He was a graduate of Andrew High School.  He married Lois Ann Werden on June 9, 1962 in Maquoketa, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on November 20, 2007.

Jim first worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa.  He then worked as roofer for Dub and Clay Romer of Connell Supply Company in Maquoketa for over 40 years until retirement.

He enjoyed old cars and going to classic car shows, coin collecting, and visiting with friends and family and telling jokes.

Those left to honor his memory include a daughter, Jody (Mark) Varner of Maquoketa, Iowa; one grandchild, Kacie (Isaac) Yoder of Iowa City, IA; and siblings, Bill (Ardyth) Potter of Nome, AK, Barb (Clif) Merrick of Maquoketa, IA, Nancy Redmon of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Carol (Tom) Norville of Venice, FL; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded by his parents, his wife Lois, brothers Gary, Richard, and Michael, and a sister Delores Potter.

A graveside service and burial celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 12 P.M., Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa.  Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.

The family would like to especially thank hospice and for the past three years the staff at Ennoble Manor for their wonderful care of Jim.
