James T. Mays

James T. Mays, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 7, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.

James grew up in the warm embrace of Louisiana, where he was born to JT and Odel (Rogers) Mays. His early years in Houma laid the foundation for a life full of family, hard work, and adventure. After completing his education, James embarked on a career that would define much of his life. As a long-haul truck driver, he not only traversed the highways of America but also shared these journeys with his beloved grandchildren, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

A die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, James’s enthusiasm for the game was only rivaled by his passion for the outdoors. However, his most cherished moments were spent with his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Deanna Mays of Fulton, IL; sons, Alan (Maggie) Traverse of Maquoketa, IA, and Jason Mays of New Castle, TX; daughters, Chrissy (Jason) Hosch of Maquoketa, IA, Jennifer (Joe) Bagley of New Castle, TX, Deidre (Eric) Smith of Fulton, IL, and Renee Snodgrass of Fulton, IL; 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Odis.

Friends and family may gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, December 16, 2023, beginning at 3 P.M. at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Maggie Traverse, 506 S. Niagara Street, Maquoketa, Iowa.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private family burial will be held in Texas at a later date.

The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.  Online Condolences may be left at www.CarsonAndSon.com.
