Jane M. Munson, age 67, of Dickeyville, WI, completed her earthly journey on August 9, 2026, at home while surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Jane’s life, her Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Tri-State Community Church, 12937 Derby Grange Road in Dubuque with Pastor John Hopkins officiating.  Family and friends of Jane’s are invited to join in fellowship following the service until 4:00 p.m. at the church.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jane’s family.

Jane was born on November 16, 1958, in Savanna, IL, a daughter to Odilo H. and Ardis M. (Budde) Steines.  She was gifted with a love for her faith, family and friends from an early age and she treasured them in her heart and mind throughout her entire life.  Jane spent her formative years growing up in Bellevue, IA, and was recognized by her basketball teammates and her fellow Bellevue Comets for her unique basketball talents.  After high school, she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Munson and the two committed their love for each other on a hot July day at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  They walked 42 years of holy matrimony together and were blessed with four children of their own.  The faithful couple remained committed to their faith in Christ by spreading the life and light of Jesus’ love through each season of life.  Their marriage is a testimony on how to love each other “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death.”

Jane spent her working career with Sedgwick in the Claims Management Services Department and only retired recently due to health issues which sadly arose again in her life.  Jane began her battle with cancer over 20 years ago and by faith in Christ, she found the determination required to face each day; even through her last moments on earth with her family by her side.  Jane was a kind and gentle woman, an undeniable magnet for anyone who wanted to find an open and welcoming door into her life.  Though, she wouldn’t feel comfortable speaking in public or delivering a powerful message, she let her steady work ethic speak boldly on her behalf.  She rarely complained about doing hard work; even the work of cancer treatment.  And even more, her peaceful demeanor, ability to listen and offer a simple gesture of kindness made her loved ones feel seen and heard.   

Jane made many opportunities to share her time with the world as the years passed.  She was an amazing softball coach for multiple seasons, but could surely find joy in working on her latest puzzle or watching a favorite western when it was time to relax.  All who knew Jane were very aware that Christmas was her most favorite and precious time of the year.  Celebrating the birth of her Savior, Jesus Christ was the focus indeed, and the chance to decorate the home, fill it with family, treats and laughter while listening to a little Elvis Christmas music in the background was truly one of Jane’s special places in this life.

When it came to her children and grandchildren, Jane took her responsibilities quite seriously. Her love was not only expressed in her words, but her actions were unquestionably on display for all to witness. Each child and grandchild was a precious gift to be loved and nurtured as much as possible in her heart and in true Jane fashion; she did it well.  She was the first to call, send a card, or remind the family of a special occasion. Jane was adamant to be on time for every family event as she didn’t want to miss one minute of celebrating with her loved ones.  She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or accomplishment to celebrate with her family.

And finally, the love of her life, Jim.  Whether spending quality time taking walks side by side, attending church together, or merely discussing the world around them, it was apparent to all that these hearts were made to find one another in this life.  Together, they prayed, believed, and walked with the Lord through every valley to every mountain top.  Through every challenge, they were convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, would be able to separate them from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Jim remained by Jane’s side throughout all her years even as her time on earth came to an end.  As he spent the last moments with his bride, he gently told her, “I will miss you deeply but I will never forget you.  You gave me everything I could ever ask for in this life.”

Thank you, Jane for leaving behind a legacy of love that remains still vibrant within those who were entrusted to her care.  May all of those valuable lessons be present in their daily lives moving forward.  We are going to miss Jane but we will never forget her beautiful smile, her love to celebrate, and her affectionate touch.  May we all serve the Lord and our families like Jane until we are called home and hear the Master say, “Well done, good and faithful servant…Well Done!”

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jennifer Barker; her two step-sons, Jason Munson and Justin Munson; her brother-in-law, Merrell Casper; and her sister-in-law, Cathy Steines.
