Janet D. Chase
Janet D. Chase, 70, of Des Moines, Iowa, and formerly of the Maquoketa area, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Janet Denise Wallroff was born on January 31, 1955 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Charlie Wallroff and Ruth Lazenby. She grew up in Jackson County and graduated from Andrew High School. She married Ira Gene Chase on January 5, 1984 in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Janet began her career with the Wabash Company, working in Tipton and later Clarence. Her warm personality and gift for connecting with people led her to a role as a bartender, where she ran the Legion bar in Maquoketa, and eventually, she owned and operated Tiny’s Place Bar in Baldwin, where she was a friend to all who walked through the doors.
Beyond her work, Janet’s interests were the simple pleasures in life. She was an avid fisher, finding peace and solitude along the banks of the Wapsi River. Her creative spirit found joy in crafts, and she could often be found antique shopping or treasure hunting for knickknacks at thrift stores. Janet also had a particular fondness for wolves and Native American items, which she collected.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Ira Gene Chase of Maquoketa, IA; daughters Marcy (Henry) Hinz of DeWitt, IA, and Ashley (Richard) DeLarm of Oxford Junction, IA; sisters, Linda Campbell of Maquoketa, IA, Mary Brooks of Maquoketa, IA, and Gerry Wallroff of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law, Dennis Glaser; 4 grandchildren, 2 bonus grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 bonus great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Charlie Wallroff, mother and stepfather Ruth and Roger Wathier, one infant brother, and sisters Hazel Crouch, Connie Glaser and Peggy Dannatt.
A gathering of family and friends celebrating her life will begin at noon on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Oxford Junction Community Center Community Room in Oxford Junction, Iowa. At Peace Cremation Services have been provided by Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.
