Janet Lee “Jan” (Babcock) Huisheere, 80, of Bellevue, Iowa, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, in Dubuque, Iowa.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 pm, Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.

Jan was born on August 1, 1945, in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Floyd and Dorothy (Putman) Babcock. She graduated from Beloit Memorial High School and married Antonino “Tony” Ciulla in 1967. Together they owned and operated Palermo Pizza in South Beloit, Illinois, where they built both a business and a family, welcoming two children. She later married Jerry Huisheere. 

A hard worker with a vibrant spirit, Jan spent many years as a waitress at Palermo Pizza, The Wagon Wheel, and The Butterfly Club. She later fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a bar with her high school best friend, Kat.

Known by everyone as the life of the party, Jan had an infectious personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved classic cars, motorcycles, and taking road trips. A devoted Elvis Presley fan, she also had a special place in her heart for animals—especially her beloved cats. Even in her final days, her kindness, quick wit, and positive outlook never faded. As she often said, “You have to have a good attitude.”

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Dorothy Babcock; her sister, Carol Dean; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. As her family lovingly says, “Bet there is a hell of a party going on upstairs.”

 She is survived by her daughter, Yolanda (Douglas) Ciulla-Griebel; her son, John (Leanne) Ciulla; her grandchildren, Tony (McKenna) Griebel, Kayla (Austin) Blaser, Justice (Alisha) Ciulla, Gianni Ciulla, and Emma; and her great-grandchildren, Levi G. and Lucca C.

 The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the many people who brought comfort and care to Jan during her final months. Special thanks to Mirna for lovingly adopting Jan’s cherished cat, Precious; Annie for her dedicated care at Big Meadows; the compassionate staff at Mill Valley; and her dear friend, Tree, whose unwavering friendship and support meant so much to Jan. Your kindness and care will always be remembered.
