Janice K. Houston
Janice Kay Houston, 76, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 25, 2024, at Jackson Ridge Healthcare Center in Maquoketa.
A gathering of family and friends celebrating her life will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in “The Bistro” at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private family graveside service and burial will be held prior to the gathering at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Canton, Iowa Cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Janice Kay Conley was born on October 18, 1947 in Jackson County, Iowa, to James and Velma (Husmann) Conley. She grew up and attended school in Delmar. She then moved to Texas where she managed a dry cleaner’s business for 15 years, prior to moving back to Iowa in 1987. She also had worked in factories and as a cleaning lady.
Janice married Larry Coppess. They divorced, and she married Ronald Rutherford. They later divorced and she married Gary Houston on October 14, 2004 in Dubuque County, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2011.
Janice enjoyed visiting with family and friends, going to the boat, putting puzzles together, and listening to country music. She especially loved her nieces and nephews, and her dogs.
Those left to honor her memory include a sister, Judy (Wayne) Potter of Maquoketa, IA; brother-in-law, Dave Heim of Cascade, IA; sister-in-law, Deb Shady of Lawton, OK; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary, brothers James Conley and Robert Shady, sisters Jane Bliss, Sharon Specht and Marvel Heim, and a great nephew J.T. Yarolem III.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Jackson Ridge Healthcare Center in Maquoketa or Hospice of Jackson County.
