Jayne Cate

Jayne Cate, 79, of Dubuque, passed away unexpectedly at UPH Finley Hospital on July 3, 2024.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Grand View Methodist Church, 3342 John Wesley Dr, Dubuque, IA 52002, and from 9:30-10:15a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the church. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 10:30a.m., with Pastor Tom Shinkle officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Jayne was born on November 6, 1944, to Melvin and Helen (Hahlen) Bartels in Dubuque, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Paul Cate on September 30, 1967, at Grand View Church.

She was an active member of Grand View Methodist Church.

Jayne graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1962.

She was an avid gardener who enjoyed tending to her large flower and vegetable garden. She also loved canning.

In her free time, she loved playing solitaire, doing puzzles, and spending time with friends at card club or lunch outings.

Jayne cherished time spent with family. She was an excellent caretaker for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved having everyone home and entertaining the family.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Cate; children, Lori (Chris) Saylor, Kelly (Aaron) Gabel, Kevin (Cassie) Cate, and Randy (Nicole) Cate all of Dubuque; grandchildren, Katie (Lance) Felderman, Ashley Bradley, Collin (Carmen) Saylor, Samuel Saylor, Ryan, Jackson, and Grace Gabel, Mack and Coe Cate, and Reaghan and Mayson Cate; great-grandchildren, Landon, Liam, and Carley Felderman, Evelyn LuGrain, Caylee Saylor, and one on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Judy Owens of Brooksville, FL, and Richard (Sharon) Bartels. Also surviving are many nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, Ralph Owens.

Jayne’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Khan and his staff, the ICU nurses at Finley Hospital, and Pastor Tom Shinkle at Grand View Methodist Church for their compassionate care.

A Jayne Cate Memorial Fund has been established.

Jayne’s last act of compassion was being a donor with the Iowa Donor Network.

The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is entrusted with arrangements.
