Jean Ann Otting, 94, of Cascade, Iowa passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

The family will greet people from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, IA. Where a Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be held at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding and Assisting, Deacon Mark Otting. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.  The Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jean was born June 2, 1931, in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Jacob and Catherine (McGrath) Leytem.  She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque, Iowa.  She was employed at Molo Oil Company in Dubuque, Iowa. On May 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Otting at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on March 10, 2021.

Jean had a heart of gold.  She was a terrific wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, friend, and neighbor, who would help others by taking them meals, visiting with them, and take them to appointments if needed.  Jean was an exceptional house wife and host who would welcome anyone at any time when they would drop by.  She also volunteered a lot of her time to the children in the Cascade community by walking the neighborhood children to the library where she read for Story Hour at the Cascade Public Library for 25 years.  She also volunteered her time to help other programs such as Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Bible School.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish and the Catholic Daughters of America Our Blessed Mother Court #1926 both in Cascade, Iowa.  She also worked at the election Polls for many years.

She is survived by her five children, Mark (Barb) Otting of Cascade, IA, Mary Ann (Kirk) Kinart of Conroe, TX, Gary (Jenni) Otting of Marion, IA, Kay Ellen (Steve) Peters of Dubuque, IA, and Robert (Rhonda) Otting Jr. of Illinois City, IL; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Otting of Cascade, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dave Otting on August 11, 2020; four sisters, Mary Leytem, Elaine (DJ) Meloy, Kay (Leo) Heiderscheit, and Pat (Les) Furuseth; three brothers, Arnold (Elmeta) Leytem, Jack (Lenore) Leytem, and Joe (Lois) Leytem; father and mother-in-law, Joseph A. and Anna H. (Soppe) Otting; brothers-in-law, Wilbur “Bill” (Madonna) Otting, Jim (Grace) Otting, Don Otting, Fr. Loras Otting and Gerald (Joan) Otting; three sisters-in-law, Rosemary Otting, Elizabeth “Betty” (Cliff) Woerdehoff, and JoAnne Otting.
