John B. Kuriger

John B. “Jack” Kuriger, 84, of Cascade, Iowa passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026 at his home in Cascade, Iowa.

Visitation for Jack will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m.  Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jack will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding. Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

He was born September 23, 1941 in Monticello, Iowa, son of Bernard and Mary (Minnis) Kuriger.  He is a  1959 graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic School in Monticello, Iowa.  He enlisted in the Air Force and served in Deluth, MN for 4 years, and then in the National Guard for 2 years.

On September 7, 2002 he was united in marriage to Renee Hamel in Duluth, MN.  He worked at the Picker Company installing and repairing X-ray equipment, he then did the same at the Hospital in Duluth until his retirement.

Jack loved bicycling, especially with second wife, Renee on their tamdem cycle, he was a active cyclist, participating in RAGBRAI twice.  He has been Pro-Life and was very active in the chapter in Duluth and the Dubuque Chapter, participating in many marches and was also a very active Republican.  He enjoyed water sports, canoeing and kayaking.  He was always kind and friendly to everyone-“he never met a stranger”.  He could often be found tinkering, and would gladly help anyone with a plumbing or electrical issue.

He was a member of the Cascade American Legion Post #528, and proudly served as a guardian for Honor Flights when he lived in Duluth.

He is survived by his second wife, Renee Kuriger of Cascade, IA; one son, Peter (Sonia) Kuriger of Faribault, MN; two daughters, Gretchen Kuriger and Jennifer Kuriger both of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Andrew (Lisa) Kuriger of Minneapolis, MN, Elaine (Robert) Anderstrom of Hampton, IA and Rachel Palaceo of Faribault, MN;   one great granddaughter Hosanna Anderstrom; and a brother-in-law, Jim Chambers of Dubuque, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rosemary Johnson; four sisters, Mary Ann (Frank) Miller Katherine Kuriger, Sheila Chambers and Pat Kuriger.
