John R. Barland
John R. Barland, 85, of Dubuque, formerly of Eau Claire, WI died Saturday, March 7, 2026. Committal services at Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire will take place at a later date.
John was born December 24, 1940 at Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii. After the attacks at Pearl Harbor, the family moved to Eau Claire where there was already family in the area.
After graduating from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1958, John attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then finished his degree at Milton College in 1963.
He worked for a family owned property business, Barland Agency, until his retirement in the mid-1990’s.
He loved to travel having visited all 50 states and several foreign countries in Europe and Asia.
For most of his life, about 80 years, he was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Eau Claire and was also active in Exchange Club of Eau Claire.
He is survived by two children, Charles Barland of Dubuque and Alice (Matthew) Westphal of Neenah, WI; grandchildren, Dionte Stewart and DeLano Cain-Watson; and Ashley and Ryan Westphal; and his former spouse, Judith Barland of Appleton, WI.
He was also survived by three siblings, Thomas (Jill) Barland of Eau Claire, Janet Barland of Eau Claire and Gordon Barland of Salt Lake City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betsy Parker.
Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church of Eau Claire
The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
