Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:15 am Friday, September 11, 2026 at Holy Spirit Parish- Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce will be 10:30 am Friday, September 11, 2026, at Holy Spirit Parish- Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Fr. Gary Mayer as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Joyce was born May 2, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Dorrance and Christine Soppe Jaeger. She was a graduate of Visitation Academy in Dubuque.

On November 28, 1951, she married Aloysius F. Brinkmoeller in Nativity Church Dubuque. He passed away on October 1, 2015.

In her younger years, Joyce worked at Roshek’s Department Store in various capacities, including serving as Mr. Roshek’s secretary. Married at a young age, she moved with Al, who was serving in the military, to California and Virginia. During those years, she formed many lasting friendships and continued to keep in touch with many of those friends throughout her life. Joyce was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in caring for her family and creating a loving home. She was a natural caregiver, always willing to care for others, including her parents and sister. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time, including serving on the liturgy committee and helping at Holy Ghost School. Joyce had a headstrong spirit and a strong will, qualities that were very much a part of who she was. She enjoyed tending to her rose bushes, traveling, and visiting with her neighbor ladies. In more recent years, she formed a special friendship with her McDonald’s coffee ladies, meeting with them several times a week to visit and solve the world’s problems. Joyce was also an avid reader and loved nothing more than getting lost in a good book. Above all, she cherished her family and the many relationships she nurtured throughout her life.

Survivors include one son, David (Sue) Brinkmoeller of Dubuque; two daughters, Laura (Gary) Von Ah of Dubuque, and Lynn McEvoy of Cary, IL: six grandchildren, Katie (Mark) Giese, Molly (Matt) Kennedy, Zach (Samantha) Brinkmoeller, Nick Brinkmoeller, Lauren McEvoy, and Michael (Annabelle) McEvoy, five great-grandchildren, Lilah, Grayson, Finn, Charlotte, and Nolan; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Duffy of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Terry Lee, an infant grandson, Joseph McEvoy, and one sister, Carol Burgess.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Holy Ghost Church and the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
