Joyce Mezzano passed away on August 28, 2025, at the age of 97, surrounded by love at the Ennoble Nursing Home.

She was born on February 12, 1928, and raised in Helena, Montana, eventually traveling to Chicago, Illinois. She married and lived in several different suburbs of Chicago. Following the death of her husband, she settled into Galena, IL, and Dubuque, IA, with her daughter, Elaine.

Joyce loved to sew, crochet, golf, and play scrabble. She was a homemaker and also worked outside of the home, There were no rivals to her homemade meatballs and ravioli. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia; her husband, John; and her grandson, Robert.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Ken) Hoving and Elaine Kray; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

The family would like to thank Care Initiatives Hospice for the tender care they gave her in the last few months.

Very special gratitude to every staff member, volunteer and resident at Ennoble Nursing and Rehabilitation for the compassionate, professional care, support, and friendships they have shared with Joyce and her family for the last 2+ years. They have walked us through Joyce’s last journey with so much love that it made the bumps in the road easier to bear.

A private burial service will take place at a later date.
