Judy Ann Hartung Nivarel, 72, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2026, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, on Saturday November 7, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A private funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. followed by a private burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

She was born on August 27, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Leonard and Rose (Kass) Hartung. Judy was married and then later divorced; this marriage produced two sons: Michael and Matthew, who were the pride and joy of her life.

Judy was a hardworking individual who volunteered to help others whenever she saw someone in need. She worked at Barnstead Thermolyne (later becoming Thermo Fisher Scientific) for over 20 years in the IT Department until its closure. She held a degree in Jr. High Education, which enabled her to make an impact with the children at Eisenhower School through volunteering with the Foster Grandparent Program for 3 years.

She is survived by her sons, Michael and Matthew Nivarel; Mother, Rose Hartung, who lived with Judy for 18 years; siblings, Sandra Loeffelholz, Nancy (Mike) Glab, Al (Linda) Hartung, Mark (Sue) Hartung, and Cherie (Donny) Waller; and brother-in-law Dave Wittstock.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Wittstock, and brother-in-law Gene Loeffelholz.

Judy wanted to thank her siblings and their partners, along with her special angels: Joan, James, and Alex Wehrspann, who were always there for her when she needed anything.
