Karen Louise Hughes, 77, of Dubuque, died Thursday, November 27, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Karen was born August 13, 1948, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Harley and Josephine (Fox) Bush. On November 30, 1985, she married Raymond “Bud” Hughes at the Little Brown Church of the Vail in Nashua, IA.

For over 20 years, Bud and Karen called Texas their home in the winter, making so many close lifetime friends and memories along the way. Karen loved hosting happy hour, playing pickelball, taking walks, and surprising Bud where “he” wanted to go for his birthday, with her strong recommendations! His reply was always “yes Dear”.

Karen worked in retail for 27 years. She enjoyed traveling, especially when it was to go to a baseball game, she loved seeing all of the different stadiums. She also was a NASCAR racing fan and an avid supporter of her loved one’s favorite football teams, as long as they gave her a free shirt!

Survivors include her husband, Raymond “Bud” of Dubuque; stepson, Ray (Jackie) Hughes of Milan, IL; three siblings, Joe (Deb) Bush of Dubuque, Sue (Rod) Maas of Dubuque, and Larry Bush of Hawaii; and several nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Amy (Steve) Lessei of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister-in-law, Tahee Bush.
