Kathleen Day
Kathleen “Toby” Day, 85, of Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury, died Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Monday, November 11, 2024, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Funeral Service for Toby will be 11:00 am Monday, November 11, 2024, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory. She will be buried next to her beloved husband, Roland at Oakland Cemetery in Moberly, MO.
Kathleen was born April 2, 1939, in Hardwick, MN, the daughter of Henry and Murble (Adams) Medill. On January 26, 1963, she married Roland Otto Day in Hardwick, Minnesota, he preceded her in death on April 28, 1991.
Kathleen worked as a nurse for 36 years, she was the director of nursing at Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne MN, she was a director of nursing at Slayton Hospital, a charge nurse at Moberly Missouri Medical Center, and at Olathe Medical Center. Even though she had to leave her profession early, she always had the heart of a nurse.
Kathleen had a deep sense of family and a daily ritual of drinking regular Coke-something she never missed. She found joy in simple pleasures like playing bingo, cards, and cooking meals that brought people together. As the firstborn of four girls, she had the unique experience of being the trailblazer in her family, which shaped her into a fiercely independent woman who embraced every challenge with confidence.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Terry) Kendall and their family, of Lakeville, MN, Danielle Day of Dubuque; a son, Roland (Rhonda Thurow) Day and their family, of Gretna, NE; a foster son, Rickard (Cerise) Jensen of FL; three sisters, Sherri (Allyson Ashley) Viland of Nixa, MO, Charlene Recker of Glenwood, IA, Linda (Jim) Zirnhelt of Iowa City; and her niece, Jacqueline (Conan) McPherron.
In addition to her husband, Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents.
