Kathleen L. Haas

Kathleen “Kate” Louise Haas passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by family.

Friends and family may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

Born on September 15, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Kate grew up in Dubuque and started her own family with her husband, Jim. In 1983, she and Jim moved their family to California, where she raised her children, continued her career, and made many friends. After many years in California, she returned to Dubuque in 2004.

Kate was the beloved wife of Jim Haas and a devoted mother to her son, Brian Haas (Claire); her daughter, Gretchen Bradshaw (Matthew); and her daughter, Rachel Bousson (Chris). She was a proud and deeply loving grandmother to Ronan and Tierney Haas; Amanda, Christian, and Victoria Bradshaw; and Mackenzie and Aubrey Bousson. Her joy multiplied as she became a great-grandmother to Georgia, Magnolia, Charlie, and Hudson.

Of all the roles she held in life, being “Grandma” and “Great-Grandma” was the one she cherished most. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — they were truly the center of her world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Moe and Helen Tierney; her brother, Jim Tierney; her sister, Martha McDonald; her brothers-in-law, Jim Mottet and Dale Everett; her mother-in-law, Mary Haas; her father-in-law, Eddie Haas; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Uhlrich (Haas).

She is survived by her siblings, Midge Everett, Jean Mottet, Mary (Cary) Johnson, John (Joyce) Tierney, and Trish (Jeff) Dietz; her brother-in-law, Pat McDonald; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who loved her dearly.

Kate devoted part of her career to teaching preschool in both California and Iowa, nurturing young children with patience, kindness, and warmth. Her loving and generous spirit left a lasting impression on the families she served.

As a child, Kate cherished family vacations to Okoboji — memories that stayed close to her heart throughout her life. She loved the laughter, the togetherness, and the new memories those trips brought. Recently, she had planned a return trip this June with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, continuing a tradition of family time that meant so much to her.

Kate and Jim joined a euchre club in 1970, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. Even after living in California for 20 years, they rejoined the very same euchre club when they retired and returned home to Dubuque — a testament to the deep roots and enduring connections they treasured.

She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her stubborn streak, and her unwavering love for her family. Kate enjoyed playing euchre, watching her favorite crime shows, and often joked that she somehow found herself serving as an “alternate juror” in every Court TV trial she watched. She brought laughter, strength, and steady love to those around her.

Kate’s legacy lives on in the close-knit family she adored and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
