Kenneth A. Brecht
Kenneth A. Brecht, 93, of Dubuque passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 am Friday, January 30 at the Church of the Resurrection followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery where military rites will be accorded. Ken was born June 19, 1932 in Holy Cross, Iowa, son of Aloysius and Lorraine (Jaeger) Brecht.
After graduating from Leo High School in Holy Cross, Ken began his studies at Loras College. He left Loras and enlisted in the Air Force where he served for four years during the Korean War.
After his time in the service, he returned to Loras where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He later earned his master’s degree in education from Loras.
On July 16, 1966 he married Evelyn Alt at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2012.
Ken had a 40 plus year teaching career, teaching his last 32 years at Bellevue Marquette, retiring in 2000.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and watching the Cubs.
Ken was an active 50 year member of the Church of the Resurrection.
He was also a member of Power of Prayer, the VFW and the American Legion.
He is survived by three children, Christine A. (Tony) Manning of Palm Harbor, FL, Brian E. (Lori) Brecht of Grimes, IA and Carrie M. (Jeff) Timmerman of Dubuque; Grandchildren, Joshua (Taylor), Sean, Bryce, Kylie and Colin Manning; Payton (Molly) and Brady (fiancé Natasha) Brecht; and Jake, Chloe and Rayna Timmerman; and three great grandchildren, Allison and Savannah Manning and Baker Brecht.
He was also survived by in laws, Dorothy Brecht, Dianne Brecht, Mike (Sandy) Alt, Shirley (Bob) Lex, Patty Wiegel and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Melvin, Delbert and Walter.
