Lana S. Heilig

Lana Sue Heilig, 83, of Lost Nation, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland, Iowa.

Lana was born on June 16, 1942 to Clarence and Margaret (Casteel) Gombert. She attended Lost Nation High School and graduated in 1960. She married Marvin Ronald Heilig on November 5th, 1960 and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She and Ron raised three children – Todd, Tammi, and Tim.

Lana’s commitment to her faith and community was evident in her membership at the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation where she devoted her time and energy to the Presbyterian Women. Everyone who knew Lana knew how much she loved working alongside Ron on the farm, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, taking care of her pets, raising her sheep, tending to her flowers and garden, and wintering in Texas.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband Ronald; her children Todd (Kelly) Heilig of Davenport, IA, Tammi (Mike) Sagers of Maquoketa, IA, Tim (Sue) Heilig of Lost Nation, IA; six grandchildren; Kyle Heilig, Renee (George) Heilig, Shane (Stephanye) Sagers, Sarah (Jon) Engle, Ryan (Lori) Heilig and Lauren (Austin) Rickertsen; and 5 great grandchildren; Olivia Campbell, William Engle, Abrom Engle, Mason Heilig, and Evee Heilig.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Margaret Gombert; her sister, Diane Rockwell; her in-laws Mike and Eva Heilig.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Her family would like to thank Hospice of Jackson County, and Wheatland Manor for their compassionate care. In addition, she appreciated all the cards, phone calls, prayers, flowers, and visits from friends near and far during this difficult time.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Jackson County in Maquoketa, IA or Camp Bear Creek in Wyoming, IA.
