Lawrence R. “Larry” Ludwig, age 88, of Dubuque passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Stonehill Health Center.  To celebrate Larry’s life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Avenue, Dubuque.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday at Holy Ghost Church, with Rev. Gary Mayer officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  Behr Funeral Home is assisting Larry’s family.

Larry was born on March 21, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Rudolf H. and Alberta C. (Wallenhorst) Ludwig.

Larry graduated from Loras Academy.  Larry married the woman of his dreams, Katherine Shepherd, on May 30, 1964, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Kieler, Wisconsin.  They were married nearly 57 years when she sadly passed away in 2021.  Larry worked as a tool and die maker at John Deere Dubuque Works for 36 years until his retirement in 1995.  He was a member of Holy Ghost Church, the UAW Local 94, and a member of the Dubuque Rhythm Cloggers for more than 15 years.  He and Kay loved taking their yearly trips to Colorado to visit their daughter, Pam, and her family.  He was always looking for ways to serve others and loved helping people realize their dreams.  Larry will be missed greatly, but we take some comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved Kay.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Kay Ludwig; a sister, Carol Vosberg; two brothers, Ron Ludwig and Earl Ludwig and a sister-in-law, Rita Ludwig.

Larry’s family would like to thank everyone at Stonehill and Hospice of Dubuque for their wonderful care of Larry these past months.
