Leo C. Moriarity Jr.

Leo C. Moriarity Jr., 72, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

Visitation for Leo will be held from 9 to 11a.m., Monday, August 11, 2025, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Michael Schueller Presiding.  Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.

Leo was born July 30, 1953 in Dubuque, Iowa son of Leo T. and Helen M. (Hosch) Moriarity.  He is a 1972 graduate of  Western Dubuque High School in Epworth, Iowa.  On November 6, 1982 he was united in marriage to Tammy Gadient at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa.

Leo was a truck driver for many years for Z & J Farms and Klockner Metals from which he retired.  He also worked for Ivan Kurt Auction Services and he and Jim Neises did a lot of construction projects for his family members and others.  Leo loved to socialize and would always stop and converse with friends along the way.  He also enjoyed horseback riding with his niece, Elle.

He enjoyed going to auctions with his friend, Charlie Wolfe.  He loved spending quality time with family and was especially proud to be a grandpa to Aubrey.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Moriarity of Cascade, IA; one daughter Allison (Ben) Miller of Cedar Rapids, IA; one granddaughter, Aubrey Miller; his seven siblings, Linda Greenwood of Farley,  Susan Schneider (friend, Dick Bolton) of Hazel Green, WI, Tom (Sandy) Moriarity of Asbury, IA, Bob (Janice) Moriarity of Cascade, John Moriarity of IA, Jerry Moriarity of Winona, MN, and Steve (Jackie) Moriarity of Houston, TX; and four brothers-in-laws, Delbert Pfab, Randy (Gina) Gadient, Marty (Keelee) Gadient all of Cascade, and Rich Gadient of Onslow; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, twins, Jean and Janet Moriarity, Carolyn Bolton, Jane Moriarity and Nancy Pfab, and a brother Peter Moriarity, and his father-in-law, Allen “Squeak” Gadient; his father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Joann Bertling; and brothers-in-laws, Eldon Greenwood and Jack Schneider.
