Leon A. Cummer

Leon A. Cummer, 82, of Dubuque formerly of Balltown, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 468 Balltown Rd. conducted by Rev. Michael Schueller. Family will greet friends 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday, March 19, 2018 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service 3860 Asbury Rd with a 7:00 pm Scripture Service, additional visitation will be 9:00 am-10:00 am, Tuesday at the funeral home prior to Mass. Burial will be in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery in Balltown with Military Honors.

Leon was born January 16, 1936 in Balltown the son of Louis and Barbara (Link) Cummer. He served in the US Army 1958-1960.

Leon worked on a number of his in-laws’ farms growing up prior to his military service. Leon worked for Georgia Pacific for 45 years, retiring in 1998.

He enjoyed hunting, was an avid Cubs Fan, enjoyed time will all his families, helping out others, and spending the winters in Arizona.

Survivors include siblings, Evelyn Specht, Lucille Brimeyer, and Bill (Marge) Cummer; brother in-law, Vic Leibfried; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Norbert (Laverne “Honey” )Cummer, Lorene (Arnold) Gansemer, Marie (Donald) Hannan, Marcella (Norbert) Schueller, Dorothy (John) Markham, Myrtle Leibfried, and Florence (Cyril) Habel; brothers in-law, Glen Stoffel, Robert Brimeyer, and Jack Specht.

A memorial fund has been established in Leon’s memory.
