Leona Margaret O’Hara Ehlers, 82, of Dubuque, passed peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Luther Manor – Hillcrest, in Dubuque.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. An additional visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Funeral Service for Leona will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Stephen Adu officiating.

Leona was born on August 1, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Edward E. and Margaret E. (Connelly) O’Hara. On September 29, 1962, she married Dale J. Ehlers at Nativity Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Leona graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1961. Along with being the best mother and grandmother ever, Leona also worked at American Trust & Savings Bank for about thirty years. She found great joy in dancing, singing and playing bingo and sharing time with her family.

Leona is survived by her husband, Dale Ehlers of Dubuque; two children, Kurt (Tammy Carroll) Ehlers of Dubuque, and Scott (Kayla Wickman) Ehlers of Oak Grove, Kansas; four grandchildren, Alicia, Cody, Calli, and Gigi Ehlers; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Addison Ehlers; her sister Shirley Donovan; and her best friends Donna Hayes and Juanita Bakey.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph Ehlers; and two brothers Richard (Dick) and John (Jack) O’Hara.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Luther Manor – Hillcrest, and of Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care of Leona.
