Loras was born on April 27, 1932, in Preston, Iowa, the son of William and Mary (Reuter) Kieffer.
He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. Loras married the love of his life, Anna Mae Schlarman, on June 2, 1956, in Bellevue, Iowa. Sadly, his beloved Anna Mae preceded him in death in 2024. He was a talented carpenter and worked for M.P. Kluck Construction for 25 years until his retirement. Loras loved building and woodworking, including several projects for the churches in St. Catherine’s and St. Donatus. He enjoyed playing bocce, pool, calling bingo and especially loved playing the piano. His time spent outdoors cutting the grass and tending to his flowers was also very special to him. Spring was his favorite time of the year when everything begins to grow. He and Anna Mae had a wonderful life and family together. They truly loved family gatherings. Loras and Anna Mae also loved to travel and their favorite places to visit were Florida or their lake home in Morrison, Illinois. He was a great husband, dad, grandpa and brother and he will be deeply missed.
