Lynn A. Nissen

Lynn A. Nissen, 79, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, June 30, 2023, surrounded by her family at her home.

Lynn Ann Dreessen was born on January 6, 1944 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Jack Daniel and Nora Mae (Makinson) Dreessen.  She was a Maquoketa High School graduate.

She married Larrie L. Sagers on July 28, 1961 in Clinton, Iowa.  Three daughters were born to this union, Rae, Rhonda, and Kelly.  She and Larrie later divorced, and she married David Andrew Nissen on May 8, 1981 at the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa.

Lynn had worked at Jackson State Bank in Maquoketa for several years.  She ran the Hawkeye State Bank in Delmar for 23 years as the branch manager until it closed.  She then went to Dutrac in Maquoketa until retiring from banking.  She also worked as a bartender at the Eagles Club in Maquoketa for a few years.

Lynn enjoyed kayaking, fishing, camping, golf at Coon Hunters Lodge, deer hunting, bowling, dancing, Sunday football with the gang and drinking beer. She dearly loved and enjoyed her family and friends.

Those left to honor her memory include her lifelong best friend, Sandy Shollenberger; her children, Rae (Greg Schmitz) Simonin of Baldwin, IA, Rhonda (Jack) Hulsebus of Maquoketa, IA, and Kelly (John) Cavanagh of Maquoketa, IA; 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack “Tiff” Dreessen, and her husband David Nissen on March 18, 2023.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 6 P.M., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 3 P.M. to 5:45 P.M. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. A celebration of life reception will be held from 3 to 7 P.M., Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Timber Center in Maquoketa. A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County or the Lynn A. Nissen memorial fund.
