Mabel J. Witte
Mabel J. Witte, 83, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Hawkeye Care Center.
Private family services will be held on Monday, August 3, at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. A public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Mabel was born on August 17, 1942, in Dubuque, the daughter of Raymond and Mary Fiedler. She married Robert “Bob” Witte on June 4, 1960, in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2020.
Mabel was employed at Hy-Vee for many years.
A loving mother and grandmother, Mabel, found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She especially loved cooking meals that brought everyone together around the table.
She enjoyed taking walks and looking for deer and eagles, appreciating the beauty of nature. Christmas and Halloween were her favorite holidays, and she looked forward to celebrating each season with those she loved. Mabel had a special way of making birthdays memorable, especially for her grandchildren. She delighted in baking each grandchild’s favorite birthday cake, making every celebration feel extra special.
In her free time, Mabel enjoyed visiting the casino, painting, and taking leisurely car rides around town. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and treasured the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her three daughters, Beth (Tom) Keith, of Dubuque, Lori (Wayde) Reuter of Dubuque, and Kathy (David) Vaassen of Dubuque; son-in-law, Steve Walsh of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Carl, Tammy and Laura Keith, Julie and Joseph (Jessie) Walsh, Ashley (Thomas) Burns, Katie (Jon) Droullard, Austin (Ariel) Merfeld, Mark (Nakila), Mitch, Nick and Rachel (Chase) Reuter, Marcus (Kari) Vaassen, Susan (Luke) Vaassen Rossman, Jessica (Trent) and Matthew (Ari) Vaassen; many great- grandchildren; sisters, Rosie Ries of Dubuque; brother, Ernie (Dee Anna) Fiedler of Clinton, IA; sisters-in-law, Joan Fiedler, of Clinton, and Charlotte Vanderbilt of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie; brother, Ray Fiedler; sister, Dorothy Fiedler; brother-in-law, Glenn Ries; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna (Walt) Hedrick and Frieda (Henry) Suverkrup.
A Mabel Witte Memorial Fund has been established.
Special thank -you to the nurses and staff at Hawkeye Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided to Mabel. Their support and dedication will always be remembered.
