Margaret Jahn

Margaret “Marge Tranel” Jahn, 95, formerly of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Sunset Park Place in Dubuque.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dennis Vargas officiating. Burial will follow in the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 3 – 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where the parish prayer service will be said at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.  There will also be a visitation from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Marge was born on August 25, 1928, at home in rural East Dubuque, the daughter of Edward H. and Lucille B. (Kieffer) Tranel. She was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Academy, class of 1946.

Marge married Eugne N. “Gene” Jahn on May 5, 1951, at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2011.

She was formerly employed at Marting’s Shoes for many years. Marge was a member of St. Mary’s Church and its Altar & Rosary Society. A lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Dubuque # 1287. She enjoyed gardening, reading, was an excellent homemaker, baker and cook. Marge loved a good game of euchre and volunteered for many years at Finley Hospital and Stonehill Care Center.

Surviving are four children, Debra (Mike) Hein of Libertyville, IL, Allen (Cathy) Jahn of Kirksville, MO, Betsy (Rich) Faust of Dubuque and Greg (Tanya) Jahn of Rowlett, Texas; a son-in-law, Brian Culbertson of Dubuque, 11-grandchildren, Lindsey, Jonathan, Alex, Luke, Allison, Audra, Jason, Kelsi, Max, Josh and McKinzie; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Sister Jean Tranel, OP, of Muskego, WI; four sisters-in-law, Bonnie Tranel, Ann Tranel, Virginia Tranel and Anne Powers, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gene, a daughter, Kerrie Culbertson in 2008, a granddaughter Carrie Weatherly in 2023, siblings, Ralph (Florence) Tranel, Howard (Lillian) Tranel, Richard (Madonna) Tranel, Sister Norita Tranel, OSF, Rev. Dorrance Tranel, Sister Connie Tranel, OSF, Sister Betty Tranel, SSP, Roger Tranel, Rev. Daniel Tranel, Ned Tranel, and Bert Tranel.
