Marian L. Short
Marian L. Short entered her eternal home and was re-united with her Savior and heavenly loved ones on Monday, March 20, 2023. She was surrounded by family and was peacefully listening to her favorite old hymns.
Marian Lucille Dutton was born on October 29, 1931 in Farmer’s Creek Township, Jackson County, Iowa to Verl J. and Dorothea L. (Miller) Dutton. She was a 1949 graduate of Maquoketa High School and shortly thereafter married Roger E. Short on May 31, 1950. Six children were born to this union, Roger, Vicki, Randy, Kevin, Wendy, and Andra.
Marian had first worked at J.C. Penney Store in Maquoketa, and upon her marriage to Roger she became the bookkeeper for the family business, Short’s Repair. Through the years she had also done painting and wallpapering, and lastly, she worked for Hermes Auto and Upholstery in Maquoketa until retirement.
Marian’s faith was extremely important to her. She was a member of the East Iron Hill Community Church where she had been active in the East Iron Community Church Ladies Aid. In earlier years, she was a volunteer 4-H leader, and in recent years she had donated her time and talents to the “Hearts Project” with Hospice of Jackson County.
In her children’s younger years, she sewed their dresses and shirts. She enjoyed crocheting doilies and gifted many with her handiwork. She loved plants and prior to Roger’s death she enjoyed camping and traveling.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Roger (Cheri) Short of Baldwin, IA, Vicki Alden of Maquoketa, IA, Kevin (Beth) Short of Camanche, IA, Wendy Usher of Menahga, MN, and Andra (Michael) Tamburrano of Canyon Lake, TX; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren with 1 on the way; and a sister, Judy (Cliff) Waugh of Anamosa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger on April 10, 1989, infant son Randy in 1955, brothers Darrell and Jack, sister Janet Bowling, grandson Nathan, and sons-in-law Ron Alden and Ron Usher.
Family will visit with friends from 9:30 to 11 A.M., Monday, March 27, 2023, at the East Iron Hill Community Church, with a memorial service beginning at 11 A.M. Following the service, family will lay Marian to rest in the East Iron Hill Cemetery with her husband Roger Earl and son Randy.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County or East Iron Hill Community Church.
The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family. Online condolences may be left at www.CarsonAndSon.com.
