Martin D. “Marty” Hantelmann, age 65, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on August 24, 2026, at MercyOne while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Marty’s life, his Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Happy’s Place, 2323 Rockdale Road in Dubuque.  A prayers service will be held at 2:45 p.m. with Deacon Curt Hantelmann officiating.  Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery at a later date.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Marty’s family.

Marty was born on June 19, 1961, in Dubuque, IA, a son to John “Roger” and Judith “Judy” (Tannehill) Hantelmann.  He was gifted with a kind and gentle heart allowing his to make friends everywhere life took him.  Loyal to his core and humble in every sense of the word.

Marty eventually met and married the love of his life, Pamela Kane, in 1991.  They were blessed with 35 wonderful years together and made the most of each day that presented itself as a united front.  He continually made a conscious effort to be the best husband, father and grandfather any of us could ever hope to have in our lives and for that we are eternally grateful.

Marty also possessed a strong work ethic which he honorably carried throughout his entire life.  He invested over 36 years of his time and talents as a manager with the Jackson Pallet Company, but did also spend a few of his final years working with his son at Addoco.  Marty gave his best and was always willing to help others along the way as well.

In his free-time, Marty undeniably enjoyed being in the outdoors as much as possible.  Spending time on the river, fishing, camping and even a little biking and hiking when the opportunities arose where among his favorites.  Those who knew him well were also aware that when the Halloween season came around, Marty had already been preparing and planning well ahead of time.  It was his favorite time of the year and he continually made sure that everyone knew he would not be beat when it came to making the most of the holiday.  Marty loved his family and friends in no uncertain terms and any chance to have them nearby was a perfect day in his mind.  We are going to miss Marty, his gentle spirit and his genuine love for all that is good in this world.  May the Lord be gracious with His mercies moving forward and help to ease the pain of loss we sadly carry today.  Thank you, Marty for always leading by example and leaving the world in better shape than when you arrived.  May the Lord bless and keep you safe in His loving arms until we all meet again.

Marty was preceded in death by his mother; his two brothers, Michael Hantelmann and William Hantelmann in infancy; and his best friend, Jim Feehan.

Marty’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Mercy for all of their professional and compassionate care.  We would also like to express a sincere and heartfelt thank you to his cousin, Sara Young, for all of the care and support she so generously provided to Marty of this last year.
