Mary Ann Koss, 96, of Oak Crest Manor and formerly of, Placid, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at 4:28 p.m., at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Mary Ann may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends also called after 9 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Services for Mary Ann will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Placid, Iowa, with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will be held in St. John’s Cemetery in Placid, Iowa.

She was born November 13, 1922 in Belle Plaine, Iowa, daughter of James and Agnes (Krajicek) Dohnalek. She received her education in the Belle Plaine area schools. She went on to teach in a one room school house in the Belle Plaine, Iowa area. On April 29, 1954 she was united in marriage to Gerald Koss at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2016. The couple farmed in the Mount Vernon area until 1975 at which time they moved to Placid.

She was a member of St. John’s Parish in Placid, Iowa.

She is survived by four children, Sheryl (Charles) Brindle of Belmond, IA, Denise (Wayne) Brunsman of New Vienna, IA, Sue Koss of Clinton, IA, and David (Karen) Koss of Epworth, IA; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Freshour of Marengo, IA.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilmer & Margaret Koss; a brother-in-law, Hersh Freshour.
