Mary J. Casey

Mary J. Casey, 88, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on May 14, 2026, at Grand Meadows surrounded by her family.

Friends and family may visit from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at St. Joseph the Worker. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Very Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd, is assisting the family.

Mary was born on March 29, 1938, in Dubuque, the daughter of Clifford and Mary (DeMiller) Moore. On April 7, 1956, she married Carl J. Casey, Jr. at St. Peter and Paul Church in Sherrill, Iowa. Throughout Mary’s life, she enjoyed most being a wife, mother and grandmother.  She did work for a short time at the U.D. Bookstore.

She loved traveling, hunting, camping, fishing and crafting with her husband Carl. After his passing, she continued these hobbies with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary also enjoyed going to breakfast with family and friends. Going line dancing with her special group of boot scooters – the Country Steppers.

Later in life, Mary found joy in visiting her land where she spent time feeding and watching the wildlife and playing with her dogs. She always had treats waiting for the neighbors’ dogs. Being in nature was where she found peace.

Mary is survived by three children, Joe of Dubuque, Jerry (Sherri) of Colesburg, Iowa and Angie (Dave) Tressel of Long Grove, Iowa; grandchildren, Tracy (Ryan Williams) Droessler, Shelley Droessler, Scott Droessler, Leah (Alex) Kirkpatrick, Erinne (Andy) Fessler, Jason (Lyndsay) Tressel, Lisa (Brent) Martin, Becky (Matt) Petz; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Diane Oppelt, Patricia Casey; god-children, Mike and James Moore, John Christ, Nancee (Wells) Frey.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; daughter, Sherry Droessler; parents, Clifford and Mary Moore; in-laws, Carl Sr. and Margaret Casey; brother and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Donna Moore, Cliff and Lydia Moore, Darlene and Don Christ, Bobby Casey, Tommy Casey and Carl Oppelt.

The family would like to thank Dr. Benjamin Kumar and staff; Julie, Chris, Mandi, Ava and the rest of the Hospice of Dubuque Staff; the nurses, CNA’s and CMA’s, Butler House and the rest of the staff at Grand Meadows; and the staff at Leonard Funeral Home for all their compassionate care.
