Mary Jane Winder
Mary Jane Wunder, age 79, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on February 27, 2026, at home while surrounded by her loving family. To honor Mary Jane’s life, a memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1425 Iowa Street, with Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Family and friends are invited to join in fellowship for one hour prior to the service at the church. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Mary Jane’s family.
Mary Jane was born on April 15, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Alfonse (Mildred) Boge, Sr. She was gifted with a nurturing heart and a desire to be surrounded by friends and family whenever possible. Mary Jane found her true-love, Thomas Wunder, and the two of them were united in marriage on April 25, 1964. They were blessed with over 61 years together and four children of their own to love and adore along the way. Mary Jane spent her working hours with Kruse Grocery, Sears and eventually over 20 at K-Mart. In her free-time after retirement, she enjoyed putting in a few hours at the Family Mart where she continued to visit with friends and co-workers until she was unable to work any longer due to health issues.
Mary Jane spent her younger years polishing her bowling skills with many leagues and was a determined pitcher with the WRA slow-pitch softball leagues as well. As life progressed, Mary Jane found great joy in annual summer vacations with family and friends in Northern Wisconsin. Being joined with 4 other families each year, they spent quality time together fishing and playing cards at the Zeromski Lake Hancock Resort. Mary Jane also enjoyed trying her luck at the Dog Track and Casino in the early years even finding the great opportunity to have a friend name one of his dogs after her. And if her luck wasn’t hot during her visits there, it was quite common for her winning streaks to appear in the regular poker nights with friends each week. Mary Jane loved on her family and friends continually and was honored to take the time to care for her mom and mother-in-law both when they became ill. It’s been a challenging season as all who knew and loved Mary Jane had to watch Alzheimer’s take her from us right before our eyes, but if there was ever to be a single blessing to be found, it would be the fact that she never had to face the reality that she had lost her two sons last year. Thank you Mary Jane for leading by example as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and may the peace of Christ be yours today and the shackles of your earthly bonds are broken and you and the boys are able to rejoice together waiting patiently for our eventual arrival as well. Job well done Mary Jane…Well Done!
