Mary Jo Johnson
Mary Jo Johnson, 85, of Dubuque, died Monday, August 12, 2024, at her home.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Jo will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Steven Rosonke as the Celebrant. The family will receive friends before the Mass from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
Mary Jo was born December 24 1938 to Joseph and Mellita (Fox) Richter. Mary Jo was a lifelong Dubuquer, attending grade school at St. Raphael’s grade school, and graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1957. She married John R. Johnson February 15 1958 at St Raphael’s Cathedral. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2015.
Mary Jo worked at Sears for many years until her retirement. She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with family and friends. She frequently water walked at Flora and Loras pools before health issues developed.
She is survived by three sons, John (Nita) Johnson of Peosta, Dave (Deb) Johnson of East Dubuque, and Jim (Cathy) Johnson of Round Lake Beach, IL; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Shawn) Thomas of Ankeny, Jeff (Caitlin) Johnson of Peosta, Andrew Johnson of Middleton WI, Natalie Johnson of Fort Collins CO, Ben Johnson of Red Feather Lake CO, Max Johnson of Chicago, and Jillian Johnson of Round Lake Beach, IL; four great-grandchildren, Madelin and Vivian Thomas, and Emery and Barron Johnson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mellitta Richter, her in-laws Ken and Viola Johnson, and grandson Mark Johnson.

A memorial has been established for the Dubuque County Humane Society.
