Mike was born on October 2, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of William N. and Mary T. (Wernimont) Decker. He graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in Bellevue in 1973. He retired from work as an agricultural salesman.
Mike had a love for cooking and baking, a gift that he shared with many. He was especially well known for his pumpkin bars and banana bread. No matter the situation, he was always quick with a joke. Mike enjoyed the simple things in life: softball, playing cards, and a well-manicured lawn. Mike had a deep love for his friends and family, and wanted to share kindness wherever he could. He was a man worth more than 100 grand.
Mike is survived by his children Jon (Nikki) Decker, Cody (Aryelle) Decker, Kalyn (Tom Dorhout) Decker, and Leah Decker, grandchildren Kindrick, Kelson, Kaydria, Kamberlyn, Kyden, Silas, Mayla, Tilly, and one on the way, siblings Danny (Barb) Decker, Loras (Anna) Decker, Larry “Weasel” (Angie) Decker, Tom (Deb) Decker, Bill (Michelle) Decker, Michele (Jeff) Jaeger, Paul (Kristen) Decker, former wife Sandi (Sam) Hough, and many others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, best friend and cousin Dave Decker, and many aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, a Mike J. Decker Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to thank the Key West Fire Department, Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, Leonard Funeral Home, and many family and friends for their love and support.
